Front-line police officers in Wiltshire will be equipped with hand sanitisers as soon as possible.
On Wednesday, the force told Wiltshire 999s that it has purchased a “large number” of hand sanitisers which will be made available for front-line officers and staff.
Some police officers are rarely able to access hand washing facilities during a busy shift.
The Police Federation has advised officers to when practical ‘ask to wash their hands when entering a home before doing anything else’. They are also asked to ‘wash their hands as soon as they return to the police station’, and ‘as soon as they return home from work’.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We have also ordered refills so that officers and staff can replenish their personal issue bottles when needed.
“Everyone in the organisation has also been issued with the latest national guidance around good hand washing techniques and hygiene which remains the most effective measure.”
