A hunt set to flood a Wiltshire village with hounds for hours has warned locals.
The Royal Artillery Hunt says it will be using fields, bridleways and lanes in Broughton Gifford, Melksham, for an event today (Saturday).
The six-hour hunt will take place between 10.30am and 16.30pm, with a spokesperson describing it as an “entirely legal artificial (drag) hunt”.
They reassured local residents that the hunt will not be targeting animal, nor will they be using the scent of any animals.
In a statement, they said: “The Royal Artillery Hunt will be conducting an entirely legal artificial (drag) hunt in the fields, bridleways and lanes in and around Broughton Gifford on Saturday 13th December, between 10.30am and 16.30pm.
“If you have any questions about our activity or would like to join us, please contact: [email protected].
“Further information: Drag hunting does NOT involve the hunting of any animal or the use of any animal’s scent – this is a predetermined trail that is laid approximately 15 mins ahead and followed by hounds who are trained to follow the particular artificial scent – this is not to be confused with Trail hunting.”
