Ten photos show the extent of a Home Bargains lorry’s near miss with a cottage on the A338.
The collision shocked the villagers of Collingbourne Ducis at around 4.30am today (Sunday, 10 July).
The lorry ended up in a deep bourne, less than two metres from a thatched cottage. A white Ford Focus also ended up in the ditch when the driver reportedly swerved to avoid the lorry.
The road is currently (9am) closed in both directions for recovery work.
Villager Simon Gilford said: “Another Home Bargains delivery almost completed in Collingbourne Ducis early this morning.
“We have to stop HGVs speeding through our village(s). The A338 needs to be reclassified to a B road NOW!
“Home Bargains lorries are a really big issue along the A338 and this is not the first incident involving them.
“Thankfully neither the innocent driver of a white Ford Focus (which also ended up in the bourne) and the driver of the offending HGV were not hurt.”
