A Frome College teacher has been charged with attempting to murder a woman.
28-year-old Matthew Jones was arrested after a woman was stabbed in the head and neck in Bath on Monday afternoon (Monday, 26 February).
The victim, believed to be 24 years old, remains in a critical condition in hospital and her family is being supported, according to Avon and Somerset Police.
Jones, of Ivy Avenue, was charged with attempted murder and was due to appear at Bath Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday).
In a statement, Frome College confirmed that they defendant was a member of staff – but stressed that the incident was not connected to the college.
A spokesperson said: “As you may be aware from the media, one of our members of staff, Matthew Jones, has been charged by police following a domestic incident in Bath on Monday 26th February.
“Please be assured this was not in any way related to Frome College nor our College community and there are no safeguarding concerns.
“We will write specifically to those students and families whose lessons are affected.
“These will be covered, especially exam classes, with specialist teachers where possible. We will continue to offer our support to any student affected by this news.
“As this is an ongoing police investigation, we cannot comment any further at this time.”
