Four suspected thieves have been arrested after a pursuit in Wroughton.
Police responded to reports of a cable theft alarm being activated near Barbury Castle at around 4.20am on Saturday morning (19 May).
A stolen white Mercedes Sprinter van was send driving away from the scene with something hanging out of the back – potentially copper wires.
Officers located the vehicle, and the driver failed to stop. It was pursued before coming to a stop, with the occupants running away through fields.
A police dog was deployed and one male – the driver – was arrested.
When the police drone was sent into the skies, two further males were found and arrested.
Roads policing unit (RPU) officers in an unmarked car located the remaining suspect, who was caught emerging from some undergrowth.
“Suspecting they weren’t completing their Duke of Edinburgh award it means four in the cells and lots of paper work to do”, an RPU spokesperson said.
A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of theft, theft of a motor vehicle, criminal damage and driving without due care and attention.
Another man, aged in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of theft, criminal damage and theft of a pedal cycle.
A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of theft, theft of a pedal cycle and criminal damage.
Another man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of theft, criminal damage, and failing to stop.
All four suspects have all been released on bail pending further enquiries.
