A derelict building in Shaftesbury has gone up in flames.

Emergency services from two counties attended the major blaze, which happened overnight between late Friday 3 March and early Saturday 4 March.

The house is located just off the A30 near The Donheads.

Three fire crews from Shaftesbury and Gillingham attended the scene, where firefighters allowed the fire to burn under supervision and then extinguished it using two jets hoses.

Police say that they do not currently know the cause of the fire, but an investigation is underway by Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

A spokesperson said: “[We] would like to speak to any possible witnesses and in particular any of the group of ‘teenage cyclists’ seen nearby around the time of the first phone call.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has an information is asked to call PC Briant at Wiltshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
