Firefighters have extinguished a pile of rubbish at a Swindon play park today (Monday).
A crew from Westlea Fire Station responded to reports of the fire at Cambria Bridge Playground, off Tennyson Street, early this morning.
A spokesperson said that it was a ‘deliberate fire where a pile of rubbish from the nearby bin had been moved and set alight’.
Adding: ‘It’s very disappointing to see such pointless acts of vandalism, especially now effecting a children’s play area, to be repaired at cost of the local authority, and using fire service resources that are already incredibly busy due to ongoing major incidents.’
The fire caused damage within the playground, which will now need to be repaired by the local authority at a cost to taxpayers.
The local parish authority has been notified so measures can be taken to ensure the area is made safe again.
