Three fire crews have successfully battled a massive field blaze north of Swindon.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene off Tadpole Lane shortly before 2pm this afternoon (Sunday, 17 July).
The road near Tadpole Garden Village, close to the junction with Grove Cottages, was partially blocked while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.
They used two hose reel jets and beaters to put out the flames. Crews – responding from Stratton, Cirencester and Royal Wootton Bassett – dampened down the field and left before 3.30pm.
Approximately 2,500 square metres of grass and a small shed were destroyed.
Shortly before 4pm, a crew from Stratton responded to a report that a fence post – touching a hedgerow – was still smouldering at the location.
Firefighters extinguished the fence post using a hose reel jet and dampened down the area to ensure the fire could not reignite.
