A financial advisor has been charged with 29 counts of fraud totalling over £5 million.
Richard Webb, 64, appeared at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning (13 January) via video link.
Prosecutor David Foster said the defendant is accused of defrauding more than 20 victims of £5,032,770.47 by encouraging them to invest in an alleged Ponzi scheme.
Webb, of Long Valley Road, Twerton, Bath – but previously of Mere, Wiltshire – gave no indication of pleas in relation to the charges.
“There is no indication to any of the charges at this stage”, defence solicitor Andy Lee said.
Mr Foster asked the case to be sent to the crown court. The magistrates agreed it was beyond their jurisdiction and the case was adjourned until 15 February at Salisbury Crown Court.
The defendant was released on unconditional bail.
