Face coverings are to become compulsory on public transport later this month.
The transport minister Grant Shapps made the announcement during this afternoon’s coronavirus daily press briefing from Downing Street.
From 15 June, England residents travelling on public transport will by law have to wear a face mask.
People who fail to comply with the law will be refused travel or fined by police.
Young children will be exempt from the rule, but there is no formal guidance in place defining ‘young’ at this stage.
