A driver is in hospital after smashing into a retail park sign in Chippenham.
Emergency services were called to a single-vehicle road traffic collision in Methuen Park shortly after 12pm today (Tuesday).
A Hyundai Tucson mounted the pavement and struck a metal post – which is part of a large sign for Bath Road Retail Park.

According to an eyewitness, the vehicle accelerated from at speed, making a sharp left across the path and into the structure.
They said: “I saw it happen they randomly accelerated and turned left from around 3mph, full acceleration into the sign, very random.”

Access into Methuen Park was blocked as 999 crews worked at the scene. The road was shut for around two hours while recovery for the car was arranged.
South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust confirmed that one patient – believed to be the driver – was taken to Royal United Hospital in Bath.

They are not thought to have sustained any serious injuries as a result of the collision, but their condition is unknown at this stage.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said that they sent two crews from Chippenham and Corsham – assisting one casualty from the vehicle and making it safe.
