A Wiltshire Police dog handler has been mocked after sharing a photograph online.

The unknown officer posted a picture of their Ford Mondeo estate stuck in a ditch on social media shortly after 2pm this afternoon (1 December).

Whilst the circumstances around the minor crash are unclear, the officer joked that they would have to pay a ‘cake fine’ following the incident.

“Just incase you were wondering where I was…. in a ditch being rescued by the Sarge…. CAKES”, they jested.

So-called cake fines are imposed on emergency services personnel by their colleagues or managers when they make everyday cock-ups – including being involved in road traffic collisions, losing equipment or accidently pressing their red button.

The image showed the dog unit front-end down in a roadside ditch, with at least one of its rear wheels in the air.

It’s not believed anyone – humans or dogs – were injured in the incident.

Trish Parker suggested foul play, commenting: “It was definitely a cat!”

Another said: “I hate it when those ditches just unexpectedly jump out at you!”

UK Cop Humour, a popular policing fan page on Facebook, also suspected a cat’s involvement: “Totally blame a cat – placed leaves to cover the ditch. Still cakes mind.”

Wiltshire Police has been approached for comment.
