Dick Lovett face a huge repair bill after a Land Rover caught fire in their state-of-the art Melksham showroom this afternoon.

Four fire engines, police and ambulance were called to the incident in Commerce Way shortly before 1pm.

Black smoke was seen billowing from the rear of the building, viewed from the A350, as a raging blaze developed. A Land Rover Defender was completely destroyed by fire.

Despite only a car catching fire, senior fire officer Matt Skyme told Wiltshire 999s at the scene the damage caused by heat and smoke which filled every room is likely to be in the ‘tens of thousands of pounds’.

Firefighters from Melksham, Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon and Chippenham were all in attendance. The final fire crew didn’t leave the incident until several hours later when they ha successfully cleared the building of a significant smoke build-up.

South Western Ambulance Service sent an ambulance to the scene as a precaution but left shortly afterwards when it was confirmed all persons were accounted for.
