A Devizes man has been charged after a ‘woman was threatened with a firearm’.
Police were called to the serious incident in Mayenne Place, off the A361 Caen Hill, at around 5pm on Saturday evening (8 June).
The road was taped off as armed officers attended the scene, according to locals.
Wiltshire Police said that “a woman had been threatened by a man with a firearm”.
51-year-old Matthew Smith, who lives in the street, was arrested – and has been charged with two offences in connection with the incident.
He faces allegations of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and use of threatening words or behaviour likely to cause alarm or distress.
Smith has been released on bail and is due to appear at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on 5 July.
“We would like to thank the local community for their patience whilst we had the estate closed”, Sergeant James Osment said.
