It’s been a week since the Prime Minister locked down the UK to try and get a handle on coronavirus, but some people continue to ignore the new laws and travel to country parks.
Swindon Borough Council has today closed the car parks of four local beauty spots to prevent lawbreakers from driving there to take their daily exercise or walk dogs.
From today, there is no access to the car parks at Lydiard Park, Coate Water, Stanton Park and Barbury Castle, but law-abiding Swindon residents say they’l just park nearby at the roadside and walk in.
Other locals called for Moulden Hill and Shaw Forest Park car parks to be closed as cars have been seen coming and going throughout the day.
Reiterating the contents of Wiltshire Police’s non-essential driving leaflet, the council said: “All our parks are open for exercise, where people are not driving to reach them.”
