A cordon was erected after an electrical cable caught fire in Wiltshire village.
The fire service were called to reports of smoke rising from a ditch on Main Road in Christian Malford, near Chippenham, this morning (Friday).
Firefighters from Royal Wootton Bassett attended the scene at around 6.25am, and contacted the electricity company SSE.
A cordon was put in place around the fire for public safety while engineers were en route to isolate and repair the damaged cable.
The fire crew remained at the incident until around 7.20am, when it was handed over to SSE.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that “smoke was seen rising from a ditch”, sparking an emergency callout.
They added that on arrival firefighters “found an electrical cable smoking” and they “cordoned off the area for safety”.
