A Chippenham woman as left ‘fearful’ after her footballer son smashed her window.

Jamal Chevolleau pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday).

Prosecutor Tom Power said the 29-year-old attending his mother’s home address and smashed the window on 29 May this year.

In a victim person statement, the woman said she was left “in fear” and “feels deflated” as a result.

Mr Power said she was “saddened by the incident” and “feels like the defendant wants to make her life as difficult as he possibly can… it’s almost as if he wants to see her suffer”.

The court heard the has previous convictions for assaulting a police officer and being drunk and disorderly dating back to 2015.

Liz Highams, defending, said that Chevolleau’s mother had loaned him money to help him set up his own business, but when he was late on a repayment an argument followed.

She said that the defendant attended her home mid-argument and knocked on her window – hitting it too hard and smashing it by accident.

Ms Highams added that he feels his relationship with his mother has been “fairly toxic throughout his life”, saying that “this is the type of incident she creates or generates”.

She continued: “It’s six of one and half a dozen of the other in terms of how this has come about.”

The roofer, who is also a boxer and footballer for Devizes Town FC, is currently unable to work due to a serious knee injury – which requires surgery.

Magistrates gave Chevolleau, of Roman Way, Chippenham, a six-month conditional discharge and told him to pay £100 in compensation to his mother.
