A car has demolished a traffic light after ‘aquaplaning’ on a Swindon route.
Police were called to the single-vehicle crash in Queens Drive, at the junction with Windsor Road, at around 10.45pm on Tuesday evening (26 March).
A Mini Cooper left the road, wiping out a traffic light and safety barriers around a crossing.
The driver, a young man, sustained minor injuries and no arrests were made.
The man’s grandfather told Wiltshire 999s: “The boy concerned is my grandson, to put the record straight he was given drink and drugs test which were negative.
“He has a black box fitted by his insurance company to monitor his speeding.
“The police have closed the case as they confirmed that it was the condition of the road, that caused his car to aquaplane.”
He said his grandson is “very lucky to be alive” following the incident.
The road was partially blocked while the car was recovered and reopened at 12.15am on Wednesday (27 March), Wiltshire Police confirmed.
