A 15-year-old boy was ‘struck with a machete’ in a gang attack in Swindon.
Police have been given extra powers to stop and search people in parts of Park North, Park South, Walcot, Nythe and Eldene following a series of incidents.
At around 5.05pm Monday (16 March), four to five male suspects, wearing balaclavas and riding mopeds and e-bikes, approached a person in Wolesley Avenue and attempted to steal his e-bike.
One suspect produced a machete. The victim challenged the suspects, who then made off, allowing the victim to recover his e-bike.
At around 6.15pm, a 15-year-old boy was struck with a blade – believed to be a machete – in Kingswood Avenue. Despite the weapon used, he sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Two people dressed in black clothing made away from the scene, on an electric bike and a moped.
Two males, aged 18 and 14, were arrested in relation to this incident. They are both in police custody.
Until 5am tomorrow (18 March) a Section 60 order is in place, meaning officers can stop and search anyone without having the usual reasonable grounds needed to do so.
It also allows officers to request individuals to remove face covering for the purposes of identification.
Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call 101 quoting log 54260031893.
