A body found in an Aldbourne river is said to be that of a missing 41-year-old man.
Daulat Singh disappeared on Friday (12 July) – but has since been found deceased in the River Kennet in Oxford Street, a stone’s throw from the village pond.
Locals claimed that they saw him sleeping in a bus shelter opposite where his body was located – and he was reportedly “bullied” by youths in the hours before his death.
Several fire engines, numerous police vehicles, an ambulance and two ambulance cars were in attendance this afternoon (Wednesday) as they worked to retrieve him from the water.
In a statement, a Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a body has been found in the search for missing man Daulat Singh, 41.
“At around 3.45pm today, officers carrying out searches in central Aldbourne for Daulat discovered a body in the water.”
They continued: “While formal identification has not yet taken place, Daulat’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.
“Although it is early stages, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
“Formal identification will take place in due course.”
