Armed police were spotted outside a school just moments before a man was arrested in Calne, Wiltshire Police has confirmed.
Firearms officers assembled at Calne Leisure Centre, near Kingsbury Green Academy, following reports of a suspect with a weapon.
A spokesperson for the force said they were responding to the domestic-related incident at a residential address in the area on Wednesday afternoon (25 March).
They added: “Due to reports that a man had been seen with a weapon, armed officers responded to the incident but the nearest location for their RV point ahead of responding to the incident was Calne Leisure Centre, near to Kingsbury Green Academy.
“Understandably, their presence in the area shortly after school pick up time caused concern for local residents, children and parents and we are aware these concerns have been shared on social media.
“Please be reassured that the incident was not related in any way to the school or leisure centre.
“A man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the domestic incident and interviewed but has since been released with no further action.
“Officers will visit the school today to provide extra reassurance.”
