Eight armed officers – accompanied by the police helicopter and a dog unit – were called to a field in east Swindon this afternoon following a sighting of a man with a crossbow.

Police were called to Buckhurst Field in Park North at around 3pm, but left just before 4pm after both the helicopter and ground units failed to locate the suspect.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called to a report of a man carrying what appeared to be a crossbow shortly before 2.30pm yesterday (06/01) in the Park North area of Swindon.

“Officers, including some the firearms unit, attended the scene and carried out a full search of the local area. They were supported by the police helicopter.

“No-one matching the description was located.

“Anyone with any further information regarding this matter is asked to call us on 101 and quote log number 166 of 6/1.”
