UPDATE: Huge ambulance response to traveller site for ‘people with minor injuires’
Armed police were deployed to a traveller site near Corsham this evening (Sunday).
A huge number of emergency services personnel were scrambled amid reports of a mass disorder at a traveller site in Thingley at around 7pm.
It’s believed that police believed numerous people were seriously wounded at the location, sparking a firearms response to clear the area ahead of approximately 15 medics.
At the height of the incident, there were ten ambulance-related vehicles at the scene – including Wiltshire Air Ambulance, which touched down in Corsham Court.
Four ambulances, two ambulance rapid response vehicles, two Great Western Air Ambulance rapid response vehicles and a Hazardous Area Response (HART) unit were also there.
The National Police Air Service helicopter from Bournemouth was also tasked with the incident – circling the site for around 45 minutes with its spotlight shining down.
At around 8pm, the ambulance service is thought to have been stood down. It’s not believed any medics ended up attending the traveller site to provide emergency care.
It’s not clear if anyone was injured during what’s believed to be a disorder earlier this evening.
Wiltshire Police will be approached for comment. An update is expected tomorrow (Monday 23 January).
