Armed police shot an injured stag following a crash near Chippenham this evening.
Police were called to the incident on New Road, between Derry Hill and Studley, at around 6pm after reports of a car striking a large deer.
Firearms officers attended the scene and destroyed the animal using four shots.
The road was partially blocked in the direction of Chippenham, with police officers directing traffic around the damaged car until recovery was arranged for the vehicle.
The occupants of the car involved are not believed to have suffered any injuries.
