The A429 in Wiltshire has been closed after a serious crash involving a motorbike.

Emergency services were called to a three-vehicle road traffic collision on the busy route between Chippenham and Malmesbury at around 2.40pm today (Friday).

A 20-year-old man riding a Suzuki SV650 motorcycle hit the rear of a silver Nissan X-Trail, when it slowed due to a pedestrian in the road on a bend outside Hangar Farm.

The biker was thrown into the path of an oncoming black Land Rover Freelander – and sustaining suspected serious internal injuries.

Great Western Air Ambulance medics, responding in a critical car care, provided urgent treatment alongside local ambulance crews.

The casualty has been rushed to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where he remains in a serious condition.

A full-scale forensic collision investigation has begun at the scene – with the road likely to remain shut until Saturday morning (19 April).

Closures are in place between Junction 17 of the M4 and the roundabout outside M4 Karting near Hullavington.

Witnesses, or anyone with information or dashcam footage, are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Wiltshire Police by calling 01225 694597 or by emailing [email protected]. Quote reference number 54250047402.
