Police have launched a probe after a woman reported being spiked at a Chippenham club.

Officers were carrying out night-time economy patrols in the early hours of Sunday (2 February), when they were alerted to a woman who appeared to be highly intoxicated.

The woman, aged in her early 20s, had been to the closing down event at Club E11evn in The Bridge – which attracted significant numbers of people.

Police contacted the ambulance service, who attended to provide medical assistance. As a precaution, she was taken home in an ambulance.

Officers are now investigating concerns that the woman had been spiked with a drug.

According to the alleged victim’s mother, paramedics believed it could have been Rohypnol.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “At around 1.20am on Sunday morning (02/02), officers carrying out night-time economy patrols were alerted to a woman who appeared to be intoxicated, reporting that she had been spiked.

“Our colleagues in the ambulance service provided medical assistance as a precaution and she was assisted home safely.

“We are investigating the incident and would like to hear from anyone who has information to contact us on 101 quoting log 180.

“We take all reports of spiking seriously and would urge anyone who believes they have been a victim to contact us immediately on 999 and seek medical help.”
