Horse put to sleep after fall on first day of Cheltenham Festival

A horse has been put to sleep on the first day of Cheltenham Festival.

Highland Hunter sustained injuries in a fall during the Ultima Handicap Chase today (Tuesday).

Trainer Fergal O’Brien wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Not sure we’ll be tweeting again today after this. Absolutely devastated.

“Thanks for the messages we’re already receiving and those to come.”

On social media, tributes to Highland Hunter were received in the hundreds.
