Police dealt with numerous offences at a Swindon car meet last night (Saturday, 16 December).

A large number of officers were proactively deployed to monitor the unauthorised Wiltshire Car Scene event at various locations in the town.

The force has name it’s response to car meets Operation Staysail, with officers from roads policing, evidence gathering and public order units attending.

Wiltshire Police said that it made one arrest for drug driving yesterday. The suspect is currently in custody for questioning.

Officers also dealt with drivers for traffic offences, including driving without insurance and using a vehicle on false number plates.

A vehicle was also prohibited for being unsafe – believed to be due to its modification.

Chief Superintendent Phil Staynings said: “As we have said previously, we recognise that genuine car enthusiasts meet lawfully and do so in a manner that doesn’t cause distress to local residents.

“However, we also recognise that the public expects us to act on the small number of people who choose to behave in an antisocial manner and cause disruption to our local communities.

“Working as part of Op Staysail, we will endeavour to ensure the public suffer the minimum amount of disruption from car meets and we will continue to robustly deal with any offences committed.”

Wiltshire Car Scene has confirmed that this meet was the last of the 2023.
