A youth from Royal Wootton Bassett has appear in court charged a stabbing and a serious assault.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of sticking a dagger-style knife into a boy after her left school in Marlborough on 7 November.

The victim, aged 15, sustained a puncture wound to his leg and the suspect immediately fled the scene, Swindon Magistrates’ Court heard today (Monday).

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, said the youngster was so worried about repercussions that he did not provide the attacker’s identity to the police – leaving detectives to trace an unknown male.

The alleged knifeman was arrested over the weekend, nearly two weeks after the incident. However, knowing the suspect was in custody, the victim since provided a statement.

The teenager is also accused of violently punching a 14-year-old boy in the face, causing him a torn lip and fractured cheek bone – which has required plastic surgery.

The court heard that that assault took place in 7 September, meaning he was on police bail and under investigation at the time of the alleged stabbing.

No pleas were taken for two charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and one charge of possessing a blade in a public place.

The youth was remanded into secure accommodation ahead of a hearing at Swindon Youth Court, at Swindon Magistrates’ Court, tomorrow.
