A Swindon MP has backed the Home Secretary’s plan to ban ‘lethal’ XL Bully dogs.

Following a savage attack on a number of people in Birmingham yesterday (Sunday, 10 September), Suella Braverman commissioned advice on banning them.

A girl, aged 11, and two men who intervened were attacked by an out-of-control XL Bully in the street – with police seizing the animal.

“This is appalling. The American XL Bully is a clear and lethal danger to our communities, particularly to children”, she posted on X.

Adding: “We can’t go on like this. I have commissioned urgent advice on banning them.”

Joining her, South Swindon MP Sir Robert Buckland KBE said: “I am deeply concerned by the rise of attacks on people, pets and livestock by XL Bully dogs.

“The Government should take action and ban these dogs.”

In April last year, a woman and child were bitten by an XL Bully at an address in Penhill Drive, Swindon – reportedly “ripping chunks of skin from her body”.

Earlier this month two XL bully dogs were shot dead after killing 22 pregnant sheep in North Wales.

At present, there are four banned breeds of dog in the UK: Pit bull terrier, Japanese tosa, Dogo Argentino and the Fila Brasileiro.
