A now heavily pregnant 18-year-old, who seriously assaulted a woman in Swindon town centre in May last year, has walked free from court.

While drunk in the early hours of Sunday 8 May, Monique Rawlings was caught on CCTV launching a brutal attack on her victim when she spotted her near The Savoy.

During the attack, Rawlings punched and stamped on the head of her victim.

In a Facebook post to her friends at just after 7pm on 2 February, she wrote: “Yes I am heavily pregnant, and NO I wasn’t pregnant when this happened. This happened over a year ago and caught up with us gradually due to our own personal reasons, like they say don’t believe everything you hear/read.

“I will be the best mum and my child will have the best upbringing anyone that actually knows me would know how much of a grown, responsible young women I’ve turned into. My life has completely changed and it changed before I even fell pregnant.

“People do bad things and they learn from them, everyone deserves another chance. With such a supportive partner, family, and friends none of your opinions faze me in the slightest.

“My perfect, healthy little boy has the best parents and supportive family and friends around him, he will have a very happy spoilt life and he’ll grow into a intelligent well mannered young man.”

At Swindon Crown Court, the judge imposed a six-month jail sentence suspended for one year and 40 days of rehabilitation activity requirement. She is also asked to pay £250 in compensation.
