A woman has appeared in court charged with numerous offences after three people were left with “extensive” injuries following a head-on crash in Wiltshire.

Chloe Thynne, 36, is accused of drink driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving the A429 north of Malmesbury at around 9pm on 15 October last year.

She also faces charges of driving without due care and attention, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident and driving without insurance.

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, alleged that the defendant left The Potting Shed pub in Crudwell in her Audi Q5 before crossing the white central line and colliding head-on with a Nissan Mirca.

Three males in the vehicle were said to have suffered a plethora of “extensive” injuries.

The driver, William Pike, suffered a bleed on the brain, a broken collar bone, an open arm fracture, collapsed lungs, a shattered femur and a broken ankle – amongst many other injuries.

His two passengers also sustained significant injuries. Between them, they suffered a lacerated liver, a broken sternum, collapsed lungs, a broken arm and a head injury.

Thynne is alleged to have fled the scene of the crash before she was located at home by police. She failed the roadside breath test and is said to have provided a reading of 91 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath in custody.

Magistrates deemed the case too serious to be dealt with by them and sent the case to Swindon Crown Court.

The defendant, of no fixed abode but formerly of Old Vicarage Lane, Kemble, will next appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 1 June.
