Police investigating the discovery of human remains in a Kemble garden say they are ‘likely to be from Roman burial site’.

A crime scene was put in place at a property in the Gloucestershire village – located less than two miles from the Wiltshire county border – last Thursday (4 October).

Today, the location was released back to the builders to continue their work after officers probing the find were certain the bones were hundreds of years old.

The site was just 20 miles away from the Rose and Fred West ‘house of horrors’, sparking fears they may have found another victim.

“Whenever there’s a big crime scene in Gloucestershire, everybody thinks about Fred and Rose [West]”, a local resident remarked.

But police were quick to quash the rumours, confirming that they believe the human remains to be ancient.

In a statement, Gloucestershire Constabulary said: “Police received a report that human bones were discovered by a builder working at a property in Kemble last Thursday (4 November).

“Following work by officers over the weekend, it has been established that the location is close to an ancient burial site and the layout of the bones is consistent with Roman burial.

“Work has now been completed at the property and the bones have been sent to be tested and carbon dated.”
