Black equal rights activist Sasha Johnson has been shot in the head in London.
The Met Police launched an attempted murder investigation following the shooting in Southwark in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Firearms officers were called to the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service where they located a woman suffering from a gunshot injury. She remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The 27-year-old was part of the Black Lives Matter and an organiser of the Million People March – a protest against systemic racism in the UK.
On social media, the Taking The Initiative Party said: “It is with great sadness that we inform you that our own Sasha Johnson has sustained a gunshot wound to her head.
“Sasha has always been actively fighting for black people and the injustices that surround the black community, as well as being both a member of BLM and a member of Taking the Initiative Party’s executive leadership committee.
“Sasha is also a mother of three and a strong, powerful voice for our people and our community.
“Let’s all come together and pray for Sasha, pray for her recovery and show our support to her family and loved ones.”
The Met Police say no arrests have been made.
“At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that she was the subject of a targeted attack”, the force added.
