A primary school has closed ‘for a period of quarantine’ following a COVID-19 outbreak.

Winsley Primary School in Bradford on Avon was closed with immediate effect today following a large number of positive coronavirus test results.

Writing to parents, headteacher Rebecca Wilson said she hoped the full closure would act as a “circuit breaker” and told all pupils and staff to self-isolate.

“We have continued to receive positive confirmation of COVID-19 cases in one of our classes over the weekend”, she wrote.

Continuing: “The majority of all cases are asymptomatic. Therefore, in consultation with Tim Quick, Chair of Governors and Tim Withers, CEO, I have made the decision to close the school with immediate effect to allow a period of quarantine which will hopefully act as a circuit breaker.

“All pupils and staff will need to isolate until this period ends. I will be liaising further with Public Health to determine the length of the closure but it will be for at least this week.

“Whilst I appreciate this ruction this may cause, I trust you understand this decision was not taken lightly and is what we believe is In the best interests of the school and wider community.”
