A house and playing fields have been cordoned off as a crime scene in Bradford on Avon.

The large police presence outside a property in the town was noticed at around 2pm, with seven police cars at the scene. Emergency services were first called to the scene around 11am.

A large number of police vehicles are parked outside a house in Poulton

The house in Poulton was cordoned off with crime scene tape whilst police officers and two senior fire officers from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the property.

Entrances to Poulton Playing Fields – where the town’s skate park is located – were taped off with crime scene tape preventing access. Some cordons were removed, but others remain as police focus their investigation on the field and small woodland near Fitzmaurice Primary School.

All entrances to the playing fields were closed by police crime scene tape

UPDATE 4PM: Fire crews from Hampshire have arrived at the scene, kitted up in white suits and gas masks. Two detectives from Melksham CID have also arrived at the incident.

At just before 4pm, Poulton a section of the road was cordoned off

The crime scene cordon has been extended, with a large section of Poulton being closed.

UPDATE 4.10PM: Emergency services are looking for an unknown substance taken by a man in a suicide attempt in order to treat him in hospital.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are currently dealing with an incident following a medical episode at a property in Bradford on Avon.

It follows a call from our colleagues at the ambulance service at just after 11am today (22/08) after reports that a man had taken an overdose.

He has been taken to the RUH for treatment.

As part of our investigation, we are currently searching a private address in the town with specialist officers to help locate a substance which will support in looking after the person concerned at hospital.
