Air ambulance asks people to adhere to social distancing rules when they land

Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed in Seven Fields, Swindon, today

Wiltshire Air Ambulance pilots and paramedics are said to be reminding the public of the social distancing rules when they land to attend medical emergencies.

Landing a bright yellow and green helicopter in a public place will always attract a lot of attention, and people are usually allowed to gather around the aircraft while medics are away from the craft, and are sometimes invited to sit inside it for a photograph.

Earlier today, Wiltshire Air Ambulance touched down in Seven Fields, Swindon, at around midday to attend a serious medical incident within a home in Penhill. Moments after they landed, a dozen people gathered around the helicopter – some even left their homes – with their children in tow – simply to view and photograph it.

But the charity confirm that staff are asking members of the public to adhere to the government’s guidance when it comes to distancing and gathering when they land during the pandemic.

They say, generally, most people are respecting the guidance and keeping their distance.

Gathering in public places, near people who are not from your household, is a criminal offence under the coronavirus laws which remain in place, as is leaving home for non-essential reasons.
