A teenager is said to be fighting for his life after crashing an illegal e-bike.
Emergency services were called to a serious road traffic collision in New Road, Chippenham, shortly before 5pm on Saturday (15 August).
The incident involved an illegally modified electric bike and a car on the junction with Station Road.
The rider of the bike – a 17-year-old boy – sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. A pillion on the bike sustained minor injuries.
According to the mother of the rider, he is fighting for his life and is currently in a coma. It’s believed they were not wearing helmets.
She told Wiltshire 999s that he son “made a mistake”, while his pillion – a teenage friend – is described as being “absolutely devastated”.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that no arrests were made at the scene, but the bike was seized by officers and will likely be destroyed.
A spokesperson added: “Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage taken from the time is asked to contact PC Bond on [email protected] quoting log 54260099193.”
Despite the claimed severity of the crash, the road reopened within around one hour and no forensic collision investigation work was carried out.
