An armed response vehicle was left ‘smashed up’ following a ‘dangerous’ pursuit in Swindon in the early hours of this morning (Friday).
Officers attempted to pull over a Ford Fiesta in Marlborough Road at around 1am – but the driver failed to stop and made off at speed.
During the chase, suspected packages of drugs were seen to be thrown from the window of the vehicle in Windsor Drive. These were later seized by police for analysis.
During the pursuit, the vehicle was seen to impact with a roundabout and was driven on the wrong side of the dual carriageway around the Greenbridge area.
In Oxford Road officers made tactical contact to bring the vehicle to a stop, leaving a new-to-service black Volvo XC90 with significant damage.
One of the occupants of the Fiesta was detained at the scene, whilst another made off on foot.
An 18-year-old male was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and being concerned in the supply of class A and B drugs.
A 16-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and possession of an offensive weapon. Both remain in custody for questioning.
Chief Insp Carly Nesbitt said: “These two arrests were the result of some excellent work by our roads policing unit and firearms officers supported by colleagues on our response teams, in our Crime and Communications Centre and also our intelligence unit who were able to bring this pursuit to a safe conclusion without any innocent members of the public being injured.
“Further enquiries are now being carried out by our Volume Crime Team.”
