Police have made an arrest after a girl was ‘followed by a man in a car’ in Chippenham.
The 13-year-old was alerted what was occurring by a woman who witnessed the encounter, and proceeded to ensure the victim was safe.
The incident happened in between Wood Lane and the end of Forest Lane, at around 6pm on Wednesday evening (25 February).
Wiltshire Police confirmed that a 57-year-old man was arrested for stalking in connection with the reported incident.
Following questioning in custody, the suspect was released on bail while an investigation into the occurrence is carried out.
“We take reports like this very seriously”, a force spokesperson added.
“If you have similar concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us via 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
In a post on social media, the girl’s mother warned others – and described the witness who intervened as an “absolute star”.
She said: “Just to make people aware my 13 year old daughter was followed yesterday from Wood Lane to the end of Forest Lane to the abandoned care home by a man from Wood Lane in his car.
“Luckily a lady spotted she had been followed and got her attention and made sure she was safe – an absolute star.
“Also thanks to the teenage boy who walked with her until she’d spoken to me.
“Police are involved but I felt it was important to make sure others are safe.”
A description of the man and the vehicle has not been disclosed by the mother or the police.
