Air ambulance medics from Wiltshire were among many first responders who attended a crash in Dorset on Thursday evening (18 December).
Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a white Range Rover and a blue Renault Clio on the A30 in Sherborne at around 9.13pm.
Four people sustained serious injuries, with Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance scrambled.
Two children – boys aged 7 and 9 – and a woman aged in her 30s were airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.
A man, aged in his 30s, was also taken by ambulance to hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries. The next of kins of all four people have been informed.
A man, aged in his 40s from Yeovil, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and subsequently taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not believed to be serious.
Sergeant Dave Cotterill, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “We are carrying out a full investigation into the circumstances of this collision and I am keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened.
“I would also urge anyone who was travelling in the area around the time of the collision to please review any dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything that might assist our enquiries.
“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience during the road closures, which are necessary to allow for the emergency services to respond and for a thorough examination of the collision scene to be conducted.”
