A man has died after reportedly suffering a medical episode while driving in central Swindon.
Emergency services were called to reports of a road traffic collision in Station Road at around 10.30pm on Friday (21 November).
The incident — which saw a Skoda hit a fence and overturn — sparked a significant emergency response, with numerous fire and ambulance crews in attendance.
The driver, a man aged 52, was treated by medics at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Wiltshire 999s understands that the man suffered a medical episode while behind the wheel, causing him to crash.
The road was closed for several hours while 999 worked and Swindon Borough Council attended to make damaged street furniture safe.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “A 52-year-old man has died following a single-vehicle collision on Station Road last night (21/11).
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and Station Road has now reopened.”
