From Sweeping Beauty to Sleeping Beauty – a road sweeper has caught fire in Chippenham, sparking the closure in the town centre.
Emergency services were called to the vehicle blaze in the Bath Road Car Park at around 8.30am this morning (10.30am).
According to Chippenham Town Council, the fire – involving the diesel-powered vehicle called Sweeping Beauty – was a result of an electrical fault.
A spokesperson said: “This morning at 8:30am in Bath Road car park our small road sweeper suffered an electrical fault and was unfortunately destroyed by fire.
“We would like to thank Wiltshire Fire and Rescue for their swift and professional response. The sweeper will be removed shortly.”
The council confirmed that nobody was hurt in the incident.
Wiltshire Police, in a statement on Facebook, said that the car park was closed. However, it has since reopened.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to Bath Road car park, Chippenham at 8.56am this morning (3 November) for a fire involving a small road sweeping vehicle.
“One crew from Chippenham attended and two breathing apparatus wearers and one hose reel jet were used to extinguish the fire, which destroyed the vehicle.
“No-one was injured and our stop was at 9.28am.”
