Wiltshire Police has given 24HR GYM gym owner Vern Montgomery ‘words of advice’ after he refused to close the fitness facility on the government’s coronavirus advice.
The police have the legal power – under The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Business Closure) (England) Regulations 2020 – to forcefully close down establishments which are open when they shouldn’t be. It’s not believed these laws were used, but the gym is now understood to be closed.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called to the 24 hour gym at around 7.15pm yesterday. Officers spoke to the manager and words of advice were given.
“We expect business owners will want to support the measures designed keep us all safe.
“If officers see specified businesses open, they will remind them of the Government advice.”
