A woman has been killed in a horror smash on a country road near Swindon.
Emergency services were called to a four-vehicle road traffic collision on the B4696 at Lydiard Plain at around 3pm.
Three people sustained injuries in the incident – with a woman, aged in her 20s, pronounced dead at the scene.
Two others were taken to hospital for treatment. One woman suffered a broken collar bone and is being treated at Great Western Hospital.
The condition of the third person is currently unknown, but it’s understood they were airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
It’s understood three cars and a van impacted head-on during the incident.
The road is expected to remain closed until tomorrow morning (Saturday, 16 March) as a complex forensic collision investigation is undertaken at the scene.
The closure is between the B4042 Brinkworth Road and the Braydon Road crossroads.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “The B4696 Braydon Road, south of Ashton Keynes remains closed following a road traffic collision earlier today.
“Sadly, a woman in her 20s died at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.
“Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and expect delays in the area while emergency services attend the incident. Thank you for your patience.”
