A woman arrested in connection with a crash in Melksham has been bailed by police.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance medics provided life-saving treatment to a cyclist on Spa Road after he sustained serious injuries ‘holding onto a car’ on Wednesday (31 May).
The victim, a man aged in his 40s, was airlifted to Southmead Hospital’s Major Trauma Centre in Bristol – where he is now said to be stable and starting a long road to recovery.
A source close to the victim told Wiltshire 999s that he is “stable and now breathing on his own in hospital, without the help of machines”. Adding: “But he’s got a long way to go.”
The driver of the car involved, a local woman aged in her 40s, was arrested on suspicion of drug drinking and dangerous driving after reportedly leaving the scene of the near-fatal incident.
Wiltshire Police has confirmed that the suspect has since been released on bail as the investigation into events continues.
It’s understood the probe is being led by detectives from CID with some speculation that the pair had an altercation before the collision – but the exact circumstances are unclear at this stage.
On Thursday (1 June), a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses to either the collision or for anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident or the lead up to it.
“Anyone who can help is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 0282 of May 31. Alternatively, they can contact the team directly at [email protected].”
