A woman’s reportedly been arrested after a suspected arson attack on a flat block in Swindon.
Emergency services raced to the scene at St Ives Court, in Nythe, at around 4pm yesterday (Monday 9 January).
At least three fire engines were in attendance and the area was cordoned off whilst firefighters worked to bring the blaze – understood to involve a single flat – under control.
It’s thought a flat was deliberately set on fire by the occupant – who is now said to be in police custody.
One local told Wiltshire 999s: “There was a fire last night it took three fire engines to put it out and a girl was arrested for arson.
“Residents were evacuated and stood outside for nearly two hours while they put the fire out and inspected the building.
“All residents have now returned to their flats, but there is still a police presence and the flat where the fire was is now a crime scene.”
It’s thought forensic work was carried out at the scene following the incident.
Wiltshire Police was approached for comment on Monday afternoon and today (Tuesday), but no response was received. It’s not clear why the force has not yet issued a statement.
