UPDATE: Police release statement after man, 60s, found dead in Wiltshire village
The body of a missing person was found in the water moments after search volunteers were scrambled.
Wiltshire Police was called to reports of a vulnerable person who had disappeared in the Warminster area last night (Sunday) – launching a major search operation.
Wiltshire Search and Rescue volunteers, supported by other search charities across the border, were called to the incident to provide urgent assistance in locating them quickly.
A body was located in the water moments after the volunteers arrived in the area at around 11pm.
Specially-trained water rescue firefighters from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were then called to the scene in order to safely recover the body.
The recovery operation required a “carefully planned multi-agency response” to “safely recover the person from the water”, according to Severn Area Rescue Association spokesperson.
“Thank you to everyone that made this possible, under some tough conditions. Our deepest sympathy is with the family and friends of the individual at this time”, they added.
Wiltshire Search and Rescue is a charity made up of more than 70 volunteers who are deployed to assist police with high-risk missing person searches locally around twice each week. Find out more here.
