A journalist has detained a man in Chippenham after witnessing a violent robbery in the town centre.
Daniel Jae Webb was carrying out a news patrol in the area when he came across a group of men involved in an altercation in an alleyway behind Barclays, Market Place, at around 8pm.
On witnessing one of the men holding what was believed to be knife, Daniel intervened and the suspects fled the scene on foot. Giving chase, he eventually caught one of the men and made a Citizen’s Arrest. Following his capture, two other members of the public assisted in holding the man until police officers arrived.
The 18-year-old suspect was then arrested on suspicion on robbery by police officers. A second man, also aged 18, was later arrested and taken into custody where they both remain.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called to the Market Place shortly after 8pm following a report that a 29-year-old man had been assaulted near to the Bear Hotel.
“The man sustained injuries to his mouth during the altercation which required medical attention. His bag was also stolen, which contained a bike pump and food.
