One of the casualties was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a red Suzuki Splash ploughed into her in John Street, off Fleet Street, at around 5pm.

The car reportedly mounted the kerb and struck the victims before impacting a wooden fence around a construction site.

The other women involved in the incident sustained minor wounds — and isn’t thought to have required hospital treatment.

The male driver of the car remained at the scene and no arrests have been made.

The force has this morning (6 November) launched and appeal for witnesses.
